I took this photo of my Russian tortoises (Testudo horsfieldii) yesterday evening when I was out in their pen weeding the wild onions. I thought they looked very nice amongst the flowers. These tortoises have lived here in my outdoor pen in central Virginia year round with no problems for a while now. Interestingly, we had our wettest year on record during that time. It rained every day or two for months. This past winter was their third, dug into a gentle west-facing slope to hibernate. No babies yet. Maybe this will be the year!
